What's new on my shelves?

Hello! Now, I haven't done this sort of post in about a month and in that time I've received MANY amazing books, both ones for review and ones I've bought. Because listing all these would take forever, I'm only going to show you the ones I have received for review in the last month :) I may do a seperate post later in the week listing the ones I've bought/won.
So here goes!

Books Received for Review

Grave Memory by Kalayna Price (Alex Craft book 3) - received for review from Berkley UK!
When the dead need to talk, Alex Craft is always ready to listen…
As a Grave Witch, Alex solves murders by raising the dead—an ability that comes at a cost, and after her last few cases, that cost is compounding. But her magic isn’t the only thing causing havoc in her life. While she’s always been on friendly terms with Death himself, things have recently become a whole lot more close and personal. Then there’s her sometime partner, agent Falin Andrews, who is under the glamour of the Winter Queen. To top everything off, her best friend has been forever changed by her time spent captive in Faerie.
But the personal takes a backseat to the professional when a mysterious suicide occurs in Nekros City and Alex is hired to investigate. The shade she raises has no memory of the days leading up to his brutal ending, so despite the very public apparent suicide, this is murder. But what kind of magic can overcome the human will to survive? And why does the shade lack the memory of his death? Searching for the answer might mean Alex won’t have a life to remember at all…

Oh my God! I was ridiculously excited when this dropped on to my doormat! I could have hugged the postman!

Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione (Lords of Deliverance book 3) - recieved from Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley
They're here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday...or let it ride...

Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.
Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

Another heart-stopping moment! I'm a huge fan of the LOD series. I hope this lives up to the hype...can't see why it wouldn't though!!

Shadow Rising by Kendra Leigh Castle (Dark Dynasties book 3) -  recieved from Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley
Ancient Secrets, Dark Passions...
As one of the Grigori, a noble vampire dynasty shrouded in mystery, Ariane has spent her life hidden away in the desert. Like all of her kind, she is a watcher, fated to observe, forbidden to act. Yet when her best friend, Sammael, vanishes, she defies all rules and flees her safe haven to bring him home.
A shape-shifting assassin for the House of Shadows, Damien Tremaine is hired to locate Sammael. His hunt for the wayward Grigori leads him to Ariane, the rogue vamp who stands between him and his bounty. Damien never lets emotion interfere with his work, but a single touch from the sexy, beguiling vampire shatters his self-control. Drawn together by their common goal, what begins as an alliance of necessity soon becomes one of desire. But when the secret at the dark heart of the Grigori comes to light, Damien and Ariane must make a choice that could bind them eternally...or tear them—and everything they care about—apart.

Thought this sounded quite good, fingers crossed the book is as good as the blurb :)

The Ravenous Dead by Natasha Hoar (Lost Souls book 2) - received from Carina Press via Net Galley
This time the dead are hungry…
Rachel Miller doesn't just see dead people, she rescues them. As a member of The Order of Rescue Mediums, she spends most of her time helping stubborn spirits move on from the world. But after she learns the details of three brutal murders, she knows the culprit can only be a reaper, an undead monster that relentlessly stalks its victims to feed on their souls.
A reaper once consumed the soul of Rachel's mentor as she watched frozen in fear. Now, Rachel is in the role of teacher to Kit Elkeles, a rodach just learning to control his wraithlike powers. After Kit and Rachel rescue a half-vampire, they work to protect him while searching for a way to stop the reaper. But when Rachel realizes who the monster is really after—and just what kind of dark magic she'll need to stop it—will she be able to do what is necessary before it devours one of her friends…or even herself?

Another one that I thought sounded interesting. Hopefully I'll be proved right!

Bane by Trish Milburn (The Coven book 2) - received from Bell Bridged Books via NetGalley
To protect those she loves from herself, Jax will leave them all behind. She'll risk everything in a desperate search for answers.
Jax Pherson fled the darkest of covens and from her own father's evil. For a brief moment, her courage was rewarded. She found everything she'd ever wanted. A normal life. An amazing boyfriend. An envy-worthy best friend .
But her past put them all in danger, forcing a confrontation with the dark covens. In a life-and-death battle to save those she loved from the covens, Jax gained staggering power. Power so intense, so dangerous, she fears the darkness that now dwells inside her like a living thing.
If she can't control the power, she may yet become as evil as the witches she conquered.
With her friend Egan, Jax leaves all she's built and heads for the one place that might hold the answers she desperately needs to hold back the darkness-Salem, Massachusetts. Her research unearths a shocking discovery: the Bane, a secret group of witches dedicated to thwarting the covens.
Jax desperately needs their help in her fight against the covens, but finding the Bane is easier said than done and takes all her skills and courage. As Jax gets closer, her dark powers begin to rise and control her actions. If she succumbs to the darkness, Jax may have as much to fear from the Bane as the evil covens and the determined hunter on her trail.

Now as you may know I enjoyed WHITE WITCH, which is book 1 in this series. Therefore I had to try book 2 as well. Hopefully I'll like it as much as the first one :)

Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane (Downside Ghosts book 5) - received from Del Ray Publishing via NetGalley
A DEADLY HIGH
Magic-wielding Churchwitch and secret addict Chess Putnam knows better than anyone just how high a price people are willing to pay for a chemical rush. But when someone with money to burn and a penchant for black magic starts tampering with Downside’s drug supply, Chess realizes that the unlucky customers are paying with their souls—and taking the innocent with them, as the magic-infused speed compels them to kill in the most gruesome ways possible.
As if the streets weren’t scary enough, the looming war between the two men in her life explodes, taking even more casualties and putting Chess squarely in the middle. Downside could become a literal ghost town if Chess doesn’t find a way to stop both the war and the dark wave of death-magic, and the only way to do that is to use both her addiction and her power to enter the spell and chase the magic all the way back to its malevolent source. Too bad that doing so will probably kill Chess—if the war doesn’t first destroy the man who’s become her reason for living.

MMM, I'm a big fan of The Downside Ghosts series...there is no heroine out there like Chess. Can't wait to see what trouble she's getting into in this instalment :)

Blade Song by J.C. Daniels - received from author via NetGalley
Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.
So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.
Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.
If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

As you guys may know J.C. Daniels is Shiloh Walker's pen name. I love Shiloh Walker and can't wait to see what she's going to do with Urban Fantasy :)

Tempted by the Highland Warrior (MacKinloch Clan book 3) - received from Harlequin via NetGalley
After years of brutal torture, Callum MacKinloch is finally free of his captors--but his voice is still held prisoner. He'd never let anyone hear him scream.Although Lady Marguerite de Montpierre's chains may be invisible, they threaten to tie her to a loveless and cruel marriage.
When Marguerite discovers Callum waiting to die, her heart aches for the warrior beneath the suffering--but they can have no future. Yet she is the one woman with the power to tame the rage locked inside him. Maybe he can find another reason to live...for her.

I've read the first 2 chapters so far and it's a case of so far soo good :)

Finally, that's everything I received for review :) let me know what you guys think of my haul and tell me about your own !!

Yet more books added to my shelves this week...

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a great weekend! As it's Sunday I'm posting my weekly round-up of everything I've added to the shelves this week. I've changed the format slightly just this once because I've picked up more books than usual! So here goes!

Books Received for Review:

Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane (Downside Ghosts, Book 4) - courtesy of Harper Voyager UK
When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.
Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.
As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.

As you can see the generous people from Harper Voyager UK sent me two copies, one for me to review and one for me to use as part of a giveaway. If you fancy winning Sacrificial Magic, keep your eyes peeled for my review as the giveaway will be posted at the same time :)

Books I've Bought
On Tuesday this very exciting assortment of books arrived from Amazon...I'd broken the book buying ban I'd put upon myself but it was well worth it :)

Shaedes of Gray by Amanda Bonilla (Shaede Assassin series, Book 1)
In the shadows of the night, Darian has lived alone for almost a century. Made and abandoned by her former love, Darian is the last of her kind—an immortal Shaede who can slip into darkness as easily as breathing. With no one else to rely on, she has taught herself how to survive, using her unique skills to become a deadly assassin.
When Darian's next mark turns out to be Xander Peck, King of the Shaede Nation, her whole worldview is thrown into question. Darian begins to wonder if she's taken on more than her conscience will allow. But a good assassin never leaves a job unfinished..

Sins of the Angels by Linda Poitevin (Grigori Legacy, Book 1)
A detective with a secret lineage. An undercover Hunter with a bullet-proof soul. And a world made to pay for the sins of an angel…
Homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis answers to no one. Especially not to the new partner assigned to her in the middle of a gruesome serial killer case—a partner who is obstructive, irritatingly magnetic, and arrogant as hell.
Aramael is a Power—a hunter of the Fallen Angels. A millennium ago, he sentenced his own brother to eternal exile for crimes against humanity. Now his brother is back and wreaking murderous havoc in the mortal realm. To find him, Aramael must play second to a human police officer who wants nothing to do with him and whose very bloodline threatens both his mission and his soul.
Now, faced with a fallen angel hell-bent on triggering the apocalypse, Alex and Aramael have no choice but to join forces, because only together can they stop the end of days.

Hounded by Kevin Hearne (Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 1)
The first novel in the original, six-book Iron Druid Chronicles--introducing a cool, new, funny urban fantasy hero.
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.
Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

*Drools* I practically mobbed the postman who delivered this I was so eager. I've already finished Hounded and LOVED it, so watch out for my reviews of these 3 pretties over the next couple of weeks :)

***

The next lot I picked up on a shopping trip I took on Wednesday where I well and truly obliterated my book ban *looks guilty*. In my defence, I paid less that £2 each for these lovely books :)

Pretties, Specials and Extras by Scott Westerfeld (Uglies series, Books 2,3,4)
Ok, these three lovelies are part of the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld...books 2,3 and 4 to be precise. Now I don't actually have the first one but this series comes highly recommended so as soon as I find book 1 I will be digging into these!

In the same shopping trip, I found this:

Die for Me by Amy Plum (Revenants series, Book 1)
In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

I've heard mixed things about this book but am assured the 2nd in the series is great so when I found Die for Me for only £1.99, I just had to pick it up :) I adore this cover, it's so beautiful! Though I've read the first chapter so far and it's not exactly stunned me but it's early days yet!

Ok then, those are the books I've added this week, what have you added to your shelves?

Added to the shelves this week...

Hey everyone, happy Sunday! I hope you've all enjoyed your week, I've been writing assignments so have not had much time to read this week, though somehow I have still managed to add a few books to my bookshelf!

Books Received for Review

The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter (Goddess Test, book 2.5) - Received from Harlequin via NetGalley
For millennia we've caught only glimpses of the lives and loves of the gods and goddesses on Olympus. Now Aimée Carter pulls back the curtain on how they became the powerful, petty, loving and dangerous immortals that Kate Winters knows.
Calliope/Hera represented constancy and yet had a husband who never matched her faithfulness...
Ava/Aphrodite was the goddess of love and yet commitment was a totally different deal...
Persephone was urged to marry one man, yet longed for another...
James/Hermes loved to make trouble for others-but never knew true loss before...
Henry/Hades's solitary existence had grown too wearisome to continue. But meeting Kate Winters gave him a new hope...
Five original novellas of love, loss and longing and the will to survive throughout the ages.

I've been meaning to read the Goddess Test series for ages now. I love Greek mythology and this certainly sounds like it'll be a good read!

Shadow Bound by Rachel Vincent (Unbound Series, book 2) - Recieved from Harlequin UK via NetGalley
KORI DANIELS is a shadow-walker, able to travel instantly from one shadow to another. After weeks of confinement for betraying her boss, she’s ready to break free of the Tower syndicate for good. But Jake Tower has one final job for Kori, one chance to secure freedom for herself and her sister, Kenley, even if that means taking it from someone else…
The job? Recruit Ian Holt—or kill him.
Ian’s ability to manipulate the dark has drawn interest from every syndicate in the world, most notably an invitation from Jake Tower. Though he has no interest in organized crime, Ian accepts the invite, because he’s on a mission of his own. Ian has come to kill Tower’s top Binder: Kori’s little sister.
Amid the tangle of lies, an unexpected thread of truth connecting Ian and Kori comes to light. But with opposing goals, they’ll have to choose between love and liberty.

OH YEAH! I could not believe it when I saw this on NetGalley, I did a double take. I had to have it...I enjoyed Blood Bound and Shadow Bound sounds just as good!

Books I've Bought

Eternal kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost (Night Huntress World, Book 2)
An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears, this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.
But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction

I love the Night Huntress Series and I saw Mencheres' book on amazon.co.uk for only 99p so I had to have it! I hope we see Mencheres kick ass with all that power he has! Have to say that I despise the cover though!

The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson (Signs of the Zodiac, book 1)
The First Sign of the Zodiac
When she was sixteen, Joanna Archer was brutally assaulted and left to die in the Nevada desert.
By rights, she should be dead.
Now a photographer by day, she prowls a different Las Vegas after sunset – a grim, secret Sin City where Light battles Shadow – seeking answers to whom or what she really is … and revenge for the horrors she was forced to endure.
But the nightmare is just beginning – for the demons are hunting Joanna, and the powerful Shadows want her for their own.

Gemma at Book Chick City recommended this to me, and as it was only 99p again I thought I'd give it a shot...but it's another one whose cover I don't like. Fingers crossed the book is good though.

That's all this week folks, I've got to get back to writing my assignments. Don't forget that Thursday is the big day! V's Book Life will be turning 1 this week so remember to enter my celebratory giveaway here!

See you soon!

Added to the groaning shelves this week...

Hello everyone, it's Sunday so that means it's when I normally do the meme In My Mailbox. I've been uuummming and ahhhing whether or not to continue with this meme after all the drama that unfolded with the Story Siren about 3-4 weeks ago. I've finally decided that I am not going to continue with IMM, but I'm not going to join another meme at the moment either. Instead I'm just going to do a weekly round-up of what's been added to my shelves this week...it's not going to be a meme, just a normal post, but will follow the format I'd used when participating in IMM.
Who knows what I'll do in the future, I may go back to IMM or I may join another meme if I find one that I really enjoy. For now I'm just going to do a weekly round up on a Sunday of the books I've added to my already groaning shelves.

Books Received for Review:

Promises by Amber Garr (Syrenka Series, book 1)
Sometimes following your heart can end up destroying the ones you love.
When seventeen-year-old Eviana Dumahl is faced with the responsibility of an arranged marriage and clan leadership, she is forced to choose between the life required of a mermaid and one of a teenage girl simply infatuated with the wrong guy. Kain, her devoted fiancé would make a wonderful husband except that she’s been in love with Brendan, a shape-shifting selkie, ever since they were kids. Choosing to abandon her family, her clan, and her life with Kain will have dire consequences far beyond anything she could have imagined.
A war is brewing amongst the clans and Eviana unwittingly becomes a pawn in the intricate schemes of a twisted mastermind. With Brendan’s life on the line, she has no choice but to involve those who she once considered friends. Amidst encountering senseless tragedies and immense loss, Eviana discovers that she is more valuable as a clan leader than anyone ever suspected. Her survival is not only dependent upon the loyalty of her friends, but also on her acceptance of a life that she had so adamantly tried to escape.
Promises is the first book of The Syrenka Series trilogy following Eviana and her friends through the perils of growing up in a discrete world that inherently threatens human society.

I did a post about this book earlier in the week explaining why I think it's going to be awesome...a few chapters in and I'm enjoying it already :)

Books I've Bought

Grave Dance by Kalayna Price (Alex Craft Series, book 2)
Whoever said dead men tell no tales obviously never met Alex Craft.
After a month spent recovering from a vicious fight with a sorcerer, grave witch Alex Craft is ready to get back to solving murders by raising the dead. With her love life in turmoil thanks to the disappearance of Fae Investigation Bureau agent Falin Andrews and a shocking “L” word confession from Death himself, Alex is eager for the distractions of work. But her new case turns out to be a deadly challenge.
The police hire Alex to consult on a particularly strange investigation in the nature preserve south of Nekros City. The strange part: There are no corpses, only fragments of them. A serial killer is potentially on the loose, and Alex has no way to raise a shade without a body, so she’ll have to rely on the magic of others to find leads. But as she begins investigating, a creature born of the darkest magic comes after her. Someone very powerful wants to make sure the only thing she finds is a dead end—her own.

Oh my God, after buying Grave Witch about 4 weeks ago and loving it I just had to buy Grave Dance. Boy I wasn't disappointed, yes I have already finished it but with my review of Grave Witch still in the 'to be posted' queue, you will have to wait a little while yet. Seriously though, it's great, I mean how can anything with THAT cover not be great!!

Black Dawn by Rachel Caine (Morganville Vampires Series, Book 12)
The hotly-anticipated twelfth instalment in the Morganville Vampires series
In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires... their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House: Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire, to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever.
Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet!

Another book I did a post about earlier in the week, and that's because I met Rachel Caine on Friday and got this book SIGNED! Oh yeah, really looking forward to reading this :)

Right guys, that's everything this week and I hope you've all had awesome books to add to your shelves too!
See you later!
