Waiting on Wednesday {10}

Hello again! It's wednesday so it's time for Waiting on Wednesday!! For those who don't know, WOW is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine which allows bloggers, like myself, to showcase the book they're most looking forward to that particular week. Now, this week I've been reading the book BLADE SONG by the wonderful J.C. Daniels (aka Shiloh Walker) and have completely and utterly fallen for Kit Colbana and Damon. If you've read it you'll understand why :) Anyway I need more of this unlikely couple in my life, soooo my WOW is all about book 2 in the series NIGHT BLADE!

Title: Night Blade
Author: J.C. Daniels
Publisher: Shiloh Walker Inc.
Release Date: TBC but possibly Winter 2012
Series: The Colbana Files, Book 2

Blurb from Goodreads:
Kit Colbana is always biting off more than she can chew. She has a knack for finding trouble. This time, though, trouble finds her. Someone from her past drops a case into her lap that she just can’t refuse…literally.
People on the Council are dying left and right and she’s been requested to investigate the deaths. The number one suspect? Her lover, Damon. If she doesn’t clear his name, he gets a death sentence. Even if she succeeds? They still might try to execute him. Oh, and she’s not allowed to tell him about the case, either.
The stakes are high this time around, higher than they’ve ever been. Kit may be forced to pay the ultimate price to save her lover’s life…a price that could destroy her and everything she loves.

Why am I waiting on it?
1) The Characters - Kit Colbana is half human half Aneira and all bad-ass, she's a warrior at heart despite what her family may believe, and she has a magic sword, no seriously...it just appears out of thin air. A PI with a horrific past at the hands of her family, Kit is an awesome character and I can't wait to find out more about her. As for her lover Damon, well he's a shape-shifter...a highly unstable alpha shapeshifter. As much as I thought he was a complete b*stard for most of book 1, I did actually warm to him...when he was no longer half strangling Kit anyway. Can't wait to see where life has taken these two now :)

2) The excerpts - I LOVED the excerpt provided at the end of Blade Song, I actually kept trying to make more pages on my kindle in the hope more would magically appear...sadly it didn't work ;) I have found another one on J.C. Daniels' website HERE so go check it out!

3) Mad world-building skills - I can't say it often enough but the world J.C. Daniels has created is just awesome, I mean in BLADE SONG, we had a sociopathic alpha of the cat shape-shifters, a group who were hunting magically inclined children for sport as well as witches, huge wolf bouncers, and a bar you get a headache going into :) I can't wait to see what she comes up with for this one!

4) The blurb - damn it sounds interesting...I can't see how Kit will be able to hide her investigation from Damon, plus I'm half hoping that we get to see Kit's Aneira family, purely because I think she and Damon could kick their asses...and believe me, it needs doing!

5) I can't wait much longer - seriously, the stress may kill me before I can even get my hands on a copy of this!!

Alright folks, that's me done for the day! I'm going to be posting my review of BLADE SONG on Thursday so if NIGHT BLADE sounds like a book for you then be sure to check it out!

Vikki over and out!

Feature and Follow {14}

Hi guys, I'm really late posting Feature and Follow this week but these darn night shifts have really screwed with my body clock (hence why I'm also posting at 6am UK time). I'm also ill again *glares at night shifts* this time with a chest infection :( I seem far too prone to these type of things! But anyway, enough excuses...I'm glad to be back doing Feature and Follow hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, the general idea being if you follow me and leave me a link to your website I'll hunt you down, check you out and follow back!! So here's this week's question, let's get discussing!

Q: What hyped up book do you think was worth all the talk?

Ahh! Such a hard question to answer! I imagine many people have read 50 Shades...but I'm not one of them. I imagine many people have read The Hunger Games...again I'm not one of them (though I ADORE the film). So my answer will not be related to a recent hype, but probably the biggest one in the last 10 years...do you know which book I mean? Of course I am talking about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!! As the seventh and final book in this epic saga, The Deathly Hallows more than lived up to my expectations, I laughed, I cried (oh dobby and Fred!!) I read it in one 4 hour sitting. It was worth the headache and eye strain because there was no way on this earth I was putting it down for even one minute...and not just because some scheming family member would have stolen it ;)

So yes, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows it is for me! What was it for you?

Love you all, and will see you soon!

Stacking the Shelves {3}

Hello again everyone, I realise I have been absent for the last couple of weeks but I've been working 6 days a week for 10 hours a day so have had very little time to spare (most of which was taken up with sleeping, eating and housework) but now I'm back and better than ever...despite a recent case of tonsillitis. So lets get this show on the road with another installation of Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Tynga's Reviews). Let's get started!

Books I've Received for Review

Dark Light of Day by Jill Archer - received for review as part of a Bewitching Books Tour

Armageddon is over. The demons won. And yet somehow…the world has continued. Survivors worship patron demons under a draconian system of tributes and rules. These laws keep the demons from warring among themselves, and the world from slipping back into chaos.
Noon Onyx grew up on the banks of the river Lethe, the daughter of a prominent politician, and a descendant of Lucifer’s warlords. Noon has a secret: She was born with waning magic, the dark, destructive, fiery power that is used to control demons and maintain the delicate peace among them. But a woman with waning magic is unheard of, and some would consider her an abomination.
Noon is summoned to attend St. Lucifer’s, a school of demon law. She must decide whether to declare her powers there…or to attempt to continue hiding them, knowing the price for doing so may be death. And once she meets the forbiddingly powerful Ari Carmine—who suspects Noon is harboring magic as deadly as his own—Noon realizes there may be more at stake than just her life.

I thought this sounded really interesting but a couple of people say it's not that good...but I'm reserving judgement until I've read it. My tour stop is October 29th so look out for my review then!

Books I've Bought

Nightlife by Rob Thurman (Cal Leandros, book 1)

There are monsters among us. There always have been and there always will be. I’ve known that since I can remember, just like I’ve always known I was one ... Well, half of one, anyway.
Welcome to New York City - a troll under the Brooklyn Bridge, a boggle in Central Park, and a beautiful vampire in a penthouse on the Upper East Side. Most humans are oblivious to the preternatural nightlife around them, but Cal Leandros is only half human.
His father’s dark lineage is the stuff of nightmares – and his entire otherworldly elf race are after Cal. His half brother, Niko, gave up college to keep them on the run for four years, but now the Grendel monsters are back. And Cal is about to learn why they want him. He is the key to unleashing their hell on earth. The fate of the human world will be decided in the fight of Cal’s life...

What can I say, I've actually bought books 1-4 of this series in one go and I've enjoyed them so far :) But Nightlife is book 1 so is the one I'm mentioning today! I'm a little in love with Niko haha.

Born of Silence by Sherrilyn Kenyon (The League, book 5)

Death Stalks Them All... Kere is the second most infamous member of the shadow organization known as Sentella. An explosive engineer who strikes terror into the hearts of the League, the bounty on his head is truly staggering. No one knows his true identity.
The daughter of a traitor, Zarya Starska grew up hard on the back streets of hell- her family hunted to the brink of extinction. But Zarya dreams of a different life and a different world. A world where the harsh hand of the Caronese emperor doesn’t destroy his subjects. As a Resistance leader, her goal is to topple the government that needlessly ruined the lives of her family and comrades-in-arms. In this deadly quest, the only person she can trust is a mysterious man known only as Kere.
By The Light Of Day... Kere has a dark secret and a brutal past. As he aids the Resistance, he’s actually working to bring down his own family- the Cruels- so named for the viciousness in their blood that runs so deep, no other name would do. Born and bred from one of the oldest and noblest families in the United Systems, Kere’s real name is Darling Cruel. And the one thing he wants most is to see his uncle, who stole the crown by murdering his father, pay for his crimes.
If You Tell A Lie Long Enough, It Becomes The Truth... In order to protect his mother from execution, Darling’s entire life has been built on a lie that he dare not breathe a contrary word about. His hands tied by his uncle’s cruelty. No one has ever seen the real him. No one except Zarya. She’s the only person he’s ever fully trusted with the truth. But when she betrays him by allowing a weapon he designed solely for her to be used against him, all bets are off.
The Hero Is Now The Monster... Betrayed to the deepest level, Darling becomes an enemy even worse than his uncle. His goal is not only to reign, but to kill every Resistance member he can find. He won’t rest until all of them are dead and that includes Zarya.
The Twisted Hand Of Fate... Zarya is the only hope to reach the heart of the man her people once considered their ally. A man who hates her with a fury so great that she knows it’s just a matter of time before he kills her. But if she can find the part of him that once trusted her, the part of him that once loved her, she might be able to save not only her own life, but those of her people.
It’s an impossible mission.
Too bad she doesn’t play the odds.

I don't know about anyone else but my first thought was 'hang on...I thought Darling was Gay?!' I got very confused...then a bit miffed because I assumed the book wasn't going to be any good if Darling spontaneously changed sexuality. Boy was I ever wrong. I bow down to the mastery of tortured heroes that Sherrilyn Kenyon has! I kiss her feet and grossly apologise for ever doubting her. This book is pure genius!!!
I'd actually read it before but wanted to take it on the train with me however, the sheer size of the paperback makes it physically impossible to read unless you have something to lean on...so I bought a second copy for my kindle and took that instead :) hence why it is in this week's StS. Go read it people...now!

That's all for this week folks, I'll be seeing you very soon!!
